Borderlands 3 Save File Location
Find your Borderlands 3 PC saves for Steam and Epic. Locate character files and profile.sav, back them up and restore the right file after editing.
Borderlands 3 PC saves are in C:\Users\<Windows-user>\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\<account-folder>\. Steam and Epic use this same root, with separate account folders. Numbered .sav files contain characters, and profile.sav contains shared account data.
Steam save folder
Open Documents in File Explorer and follow My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\. Open the Steam account folder to see character files such as 1.sav, 2.sav and 3.sav, together with profile.sav.
Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\<account-folder>\
1.sav
2.sav
profile.savUse Windows' actual Documents location. If OneDrive or a different drive hosts Documents, the My Games tree follows that folder. The Steam library folder contains the game installation and is separate from the usual save location.
Epic Games save folder
Epic uses Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\ too. Choose the account subfolder used by your Epic game. If you have also launched Steam's version, expect another account folder beneath the same root.
BL3 PC files can be moved between Steam and Epic. Start the destination version once to create its folder, exit the game completely, and back up both account folders before copying files. Preserve existing destination characters so you do not overwrite them by accident.
The two platforms keep separate local folders and separate cloud copies. Playing on Steam after a transfer does not automatically update your Epic folder, or vice versa. When returning to the other platform, decide which character copy you intend to use before moving files again.
Which file contains my character?
A numbered file such as 1.sav stores an individual Vault Hunter. Its filename does not reveal its name, class or level. Import it into the Borderlands 3 save editor and check the character summary to identify it.
Use the character file for money, Eridium, level, XP, ordinary skill points and inventory. Keep profile.sav separate. Renaming the profile into a numbered file does not turn it into a character.
If you have several characters with similar names, note the file slot before downloading an edit. Keep the original filename when replacing it. A downloaded name with an added suffix belongs in your Downloads folder until you rename it deliberately for the matching live slot.
What profile.sav stores
The profile contains shared data such as bank contents and capacity, Lost Loot upgrades, keys, Guardian progression, cosmetics and preferences. Character currency and ordinary skills remain in each numbered save.
Back up profile.sav together with your characters when you want a complete account restore point. Profile changes can affect several Vault Hunters, so restoring only one numbered save will not undo shared profile changes.
Do I need a Steam ID or Epic ID?
No account ID is needed by the BL3 PC save editor. Choose the local file and import it directly. The account label in the folder helps you find the right files but does not need to be entered into the tool.
Use the folder belonging to the platform and account you are launching. When the folder is unclear, save normally with the intended character, exit, and compare file modification times. Confirm the character in the imported summary before editing.
Back up before editing
Exit Borderlands 3, wait for current cloud synchronization to finish, and copy the complete account folder somewhere outside SaveGames. Preserve the original filenames and use a recognizable backup-folder name.
Download the original-file backup from the editor as well. That gives you a copy of the exact file you imported. Keep the whole-folder backup when editing shared data or several characters. Undo and Reset return browser edits to an earlier state; they do not copy files back onto your disk.
Cloud saves and restoring an older file
Pause the game's cloud synchronization while making a deliberate local replacement. Copy the edited or original backup into the correct account folder with the game closed, and keep its intended filename. Restart the game and select the character you meant to change.
If a launcher asks you to resolve a cloud conflict, identify which copy contains your intended state. Check the character slot, backup and modification time together. Resume synchronization after reviewing the chosen local copy. Read the backup, edit and restore tutorial for the full workflow.
