What you can edit in BL3 saves and profile.sav

Use this Borderlands 3 save editor to work on a PC character or profile file without installing a desktop application. Import the file, inspect the character or profile summary, change the values you need, and download a separate edited copy. BL3 does not need the Steam ID or Epic ID used by the Borderlands 4 editor.

The character controls also edit its name and active Mayhem level. Money and Eridium belong to the character. Bank capacity and Lost Loot capacity belong to the profile. Choose the file containing the value you want to change rather than expecting one currency edit to update every Vault Hunter. Back up the whole account folder if you plan to edit both files.

The BL3 level cap is 72. Setting a character level updates related XP and progression values, while setting XP derives the corresponding level. Inspect the linked values in the preview. Keep your remaining skill points in line with your level and existing invested skills; a point edit leaves the skills you already allocated in place.

Use item levels suited to the character that will equip them. A weapon's item level and its Mayhem level are distinct properties. Increasing one does not automatically select the other, and editing a weapon does not change the character's active world Mayhem setting. Review the inventory details as well as the basic character panel.

How to edit a Borderlands 3 save

  1. Exit Borderlands 3 and allow current cloud synchronization to finish. Copy the entire account folder from SaveGames to a separate backup location, including all numbered saves and profile.sav.

  2. Choose a character .sav for money, XP, skills or inventory. Choose profile.sav for bank items, keys, Guardian progression, Science and shared unlocks. Import the file into the editor above and check its summary.

  3. Download the original backup. Make your change, inspect the before-and-after preview, and apply it. Use Undo or Reset if the result is not the one you wanted.

  4. Download the edited save. With the game closed, copy it into the same account folder under the original filename. Check whether your browser added a download suffix before replacing the live file.

  5. Start the game, select the intended character, and review your changes. Keep the untouched folder backup so you can restore the previous character and profile later.

A browser edit does not automatically replace your local file. The final download is a new copy, and you control which character slot receives it. Avoid overwriting a different numbered save simply because it has a similar level or was recently modified. Importing the file and checking the character name is a useful final check before replacement.

When you are making several changes, finish the current preview before moving to another group of controls. Read the final summary, particularly when a level edit changes XP or a flag changes related inventory state. The save-editing tutorial explains backup, replacement and restoration for all three games.

Golden Keys, Diamond Keys and Vault Cards

Import profile.sav and open the profile controls to set Golden Keys, Diamond Keys and each Vault Card's key and chest counts. These are separate resources: a Golden Key opens the Golden Chest, a Diamond Key belongs to the Diamond Armory, and Vault Cards use their own rewards.

Choose the named counter you want, enter a whole number and inspect the preview. Character money and Eridium do not change these profile resources. A profile edit affects the account's shared data, so retain a profile backup alongside your characters.

Keep the relevant DLC installed when using its rewards. Editing a save does not install DLC or provide content ownership. Set the reward counters for the game and DLC setup you normally play.

Guardian Rank and Borderlands Science

Guardian Rank and Guardian Tokens are editable in profile.sav. Rank, unspent tokens and invested rewards work together, while ordinary character skills form a separate progression system. Changing character XP does not grant Guardian Tokens.

Set Rank or Tokens through their named controls. The Guardian rewards preset gives each listed reward at least one point and raises Rank as needed to cover the resulting rewards and token balance. Review the linked Rank changes before applying the profile edit.

Borderlands Science tokens have their own counter. Set the token balance separately from the Science progression preset, which unlocks progression through True Tannis without spending those tokens. Both controls belong to the profile and apply across its characters.

Import BL3 item codes

BL3 item codes use the BL3(...) format. Copy the entire string, including its prefix and closing parenthesis. Preserve letter case and punctuation, and avoid copying quotation marks around the code. BL2 and BL4 codes use different formats.

Open Inventory and paste one or several codes into Add items, one complete code per line. Import a character to add backpack equipment; import profile.sav to add bank equipment. Preview the new entries before applying them. You can copy or delete existing entries from the same inventory view.

Choose an item to change its level or a supported weapon's Mayhem setting. Batch controls apply a level or Mayhem value across readable items in the selected inventory. Item levels run from 1–72 and weapon Mayhem levels from 0–10. Keep equipment suited to the character that will use it.

An item code defines equipment, while the save records its position and flags. Keep an original file backup when editing a collection. Changing a weapon's Mayhem value does not change the active world setting: use the character's Mayhem control for that.

TVHM, Mayhem and SDUs

Unlocks offers presets for TVHM, Mayhem, SDUs, equipment slots, vehicles and their parts, and Eridian tools. Use All unlocks when you want the full set, or apply a specific preset while keeping the rest of the character's progression as it is.

The character's active Mayhem control accepts levels 0–11. This is separate from a weapon's item Mayhem value. Level 72 alone does not select a playthrough or enable all progression systems; choose the relevant unlock preset and review it.

Character SDUs affect ammunition and backpack capacities. Bank and Lost Loot SDUs belong to profile.sav, and the profile SDU preset upgrades both. Cosmetics and Guardian rewards are also available through profile presets. Choose the file containing the feature you want before previewing a shared-data change.

Where are Borderlands 3 save files?

On Windows, both Steam and Epic saves use C:\Users\<Windows-user>\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\<account-folder>\. Open the account folder to find numbered character files such as 1.sav and the shared profile.sav.

Steam and Epic use separate account subfolders beneath the same root. If you have played both versions, identify which folder belongs to the version you are launching before replacing files. Open the Borderlands 3 save file location guide for folder selection, Documents redirection and cloud-save advice.

You can move PC save data between Steam and Epic by copying the files to the destination account folder. Start the destination version once to create its folder, then exit before copying. Back up both folders first if each already contains characters. Each platform keeps its own cloud copy after the move; later play on one does not update the other's folder.

PS4 saves

The Advanced converter works with a BL3 PC character file and an already-decrypted PS4 inner character file. It converts the inner save representation between those two forms. An untouched PS4 console container needs platform-specific extraction and decryption before this step.

A converted inner file still needs the console's own packaging and signing workflow before use on a console. Keep the original container and the extracted file separate, and choose the conversion direction that matches your input. PC players editing Steam or Epic saves can stay with the ordinary import and download flow.

Borderlands 3 save editor FAQ

Does it edit profile.sav?

Yes. Import a BL3 profile for bank items, Golden and Diamond Keys, Vault Card rewards, Guardian Rank and Tokens, Science tokens, Bank and Lost Loot SDUs, and cosmetics.

How do I add Golden Keys?

Import profile.sav, set Golden Keys in the profile controls, preview and apply the edit, then download the profile under its original filename. Keep the untouched original as a backup.

Can I edit PS4 or Xbox saves?

The character editor accepts BL3 PC saves. Advanced conversion accepts an already-decrypted PS4 inner character file. Raw PlayStation or Xbox console save containers cannot be imported directly.

Does it work with Epic Games BL3 saves?

Yes. Steam and Epic use the BL3 PC save format. Import the local .sav from the appropriate account folder; no Steam ID or Epic ID is required.

Will Guardian Rank changes carry over to all characters?

Guardian Rank belongs to the shared BL3 profile, so profile changes affect the account's characters. Ordinary character level and skill-point edits apply to the character file you imported.

Is the BL3 save editor free?

Yes. Editing and original backup downloads are free, run in your browser, and require no website account or desktop installation.
